Croatia Vacation - Dubrovnik

 9/3/22

After a week at sea, we finally left our boat to head into King's Landing.  We had a driver pick us up and we were delivered to Hotel Excelsior where we were able to score an early check in.  Using a full sized shower for the first time in a week was a delight.  Hotel Excelsior was a great stay, but I have a complaint.  A five star hotel should not lock the room thermostats to a temperature that causes you to sweat in your own bedroom.  A quick (and slightly buzzed) call to the front desk fixed that problem quickly.

Our hotel was around a 10 minute walk from the walled city, so Allison and I made the trek down to meet up with friends to explore a bit and complete our main mission for the day: find a bar that would show the Razorback game after dinner.

Dubrovnik was the most crowded place we visited during our trip, but even it wasn't packed.  The Stradun, which is the main street in the walled city, was busy but you never felt overwhelmed.  There was always room in the stores and we were able to grab nice outdoor tables for lunches without any wait.  We found an Irish Pub called Karaka that would be showing the game.  Mission Complete.  Before the game, however, Allison and I had a fancypants dinner reservation at Restaurant 360.  Michelin star and overlooking the water, no big deal.  The food was great, but the views and being able to eat while on the city walls were the main selling points to me.

After finishing dinner, we sprinted to Karaka to meet our group.  We made it just in time for kickoff and found that they had sent the annoying Americans to their own little private area, which was awesome.  Unfortunately there was no air conditioning and I ended up VERY, VERY sweaty.  We won though, so that's all that mattered.

After a relaxing first day off the boat, we decided to explore the city more thoroughly...after Allison got a massage at the hotel.  I found the "Shame" stairs from Game of Thrones, but the highlight was walking the city walls.  Minor correction: it was a highlight for me, not Allison.  She complained.

After returning to the hotel to get showered up, we made our way to the cable cars to take a ride up the mountain to our restaurant, Panorama.  We reserved a table with views of the sunset, which was breathtaking.  The food wasn't too shabby either.  After dinner we headed straight back to the hotel since we had an early morning flight and didn't want to be late.  Turns out security took 10 minutes and we had 2 hours to sit in a chair at the airport...Whoops.
