Croatia Vacation - Krka National Park

 8/27/22

We woke up early to meet our tour guides, Bartul and Hrvoje, for our trip to Krka National Park and subsequent transfer to our gulet outside of Trogir.  Our first taste of Krka was the amazing dictator tour bus that was in front of us waiting to enter the park.  Congrats to Tito for making the bus.  No one outside the region recognizes you, though.  Like the 5th member of the 1993 Atlanta Braves pitching staff.  The Xs were way too small, in my totally correct opinion.

The bus says Never Again, but the size of the
X implies "Maybe we should get the band back together?"

Krka is the little brother of the much more popular Plitvice Lakes National Park, but I'll be damned if I put everyone on a bus for another 2.5 hour adventure, so Krka it is.  Apparently the used to let you swim in the falls, but banned it a couple of years ago.  Score one for Bosnia, but Krka was still a damned cool hike.

After exploring Krka, we boarded a boat for a short cruise to the small town of Skradin, which was equipped with a beach for swimming.  First, however, we had to find food so that Allison did not get hangry.  No one likes her when she's hangry.  Every restaurant we tried seemed to be closed for lunch until 2PM, which is killer for someone who eats very early in the day.  We finally found a pizza place that, although it looked like a complete tourist trap, made a pretty dang good pizza.  After lunch we started our walk to the beach, only stopping to by stupid hats and every single $1 beer would could find.  We found a lot of $1 beers.

After the beach, we loaded back into the vans to transfer to our final destination, the marina in Seget Donji, a town just outside of Trogir.  I'm not going to lie, I was slightly panicking that the boat was not real and I'd been wiring money to a random Slovenian lady for the better part of a year, but we received a call at 5 PM letting us know that our boat was ready.  It was like a weight being lifted off my shoulders.  After learning that the boat was real, I was only slightly panicked that it would be a piece of shit, but luckily it looked just like the pictures and I didn't ruin the vacation for all my friends.

We met the captain, Ante, our chef for the week, Darco, and the crew, Nikola and Mirko en route to boarding Gulet Aurum for our one week cruise down to Dubrovnik.  We exited the harbor and made a quick run down to the island of Solta before finding a nice cove for cannonballs, beers, and an unexpectedly amazing dinner from Darco.  The trip was off to a great start.
